I hated Goodnight Gorilla! That is NOT a read-to-me book! Just a lot of flipping pages. I hid the book or just ask tons of questions while we read it to draw it out and make the next reading that much further away.

Something else I've tried is to record myself reading the book - that way "I'm" still reading it to them for the bazillionth time, but I'M not really having to do it!

I love it when kids choose their own books. I know they are thinking and getting ready to make choice. Hopefully soon they will make varied choices, but it might take time.

My 8 year old daughter has a book that I bought her last year or the year before that is her absolute favorite and we read it a few times per week. She reads chapter books to herself and me, but this picture book is her pick for when we are snuggling on the couch and I read to her. It is a fun book and I let her do the exciting sections. It was the first book that she was really interested in and helped her on her journey into reading on her own.<br />It's a Tiger by David LaRochelle
