Reindeer Antler Craft
Inside: This easy prep reindeer antler craft helps preschoolers strengthen their fine motor skills and goes well with the picture book How the Reindeer Got Their Antlers.

We love all the great picture books for the holiday season that are out there for preschoolers. (We even have a whole list of books about Santa Claus!)
Today I discovered a sweet story that hasn’t made either of those lists. It’s a tiny bit long, but I think it will hold preschoolers’ attention – or is easy to condense if your little ones need you to. The illustrations are lovely too.

How the Reindeer Got Their Antlers tells the story of a reindeer who hides away in the far north, ashamed of her ugly antlers. Then, a thousand generations later, her descendants use their antlers to help rescue Santa’s sleigh. As a reward, Santa gives them the magical gift of flight, turning their antlers into a source of pride.
After you read the story, a craft will be more meaningful. Today I want to share a super easy one with you!
Torn Paper Reindeer Antler Craft
This simple craft can strengthen those little fingers for fine motor work and gluing them in place is great for eye-hand coordination. I hope your kids will be excited to make these!
Materials
There’s virtually no prep for this, especially if you already have the materials on hand (which you probably do). Here’s what you need:
- brown paper
- red paper
- glue sticks (the purple kind is great in this case)
- free template (see the end of this post)
Instructions
Start by tearing the brown paper into little squares.

Then, starting inside the ears, use a glue stick to draw a line from the face up diagonally toward the top of the page. Glue the papers along the line, adding more glue as needed.

Add branches too…

Finally, tear out a red nose and glue that on.

And don’t forget to write a name at the top!
